Disney's Club Penguin is an online game developed by New Horizon Interactive and had recently partnered with the Disney company to expand their site's population. Using cartoon penguin avatars, players can waddle around, chat, play minigames, and participate in other activities with one another in a snow-covered virtual world. Having completed beta-testing, Club Penguin was made available to the general public on October 24, 2005 and has since expanded into a large online community.
Club Penguin shares similarities with other popular online environments like Habbo Hotel. Though open to users of all ages like Virtual Magic Kingdom, another Disney-owned online community, Club Penguin is primarily designed for children ages six to fourteen and has qualified for the Better Business Bureau - Kid's Privacy Seal of Approval. Club Penguin was also awarded the "Editors Choice" award from Children's Technology Review Magazine.
An online merchandise shop opened on the Club Penguin website in August 2006, selling stuffed Puffles and T-shirts. Keychains, gift cards, and more shirts were added on November 7, 2006.
There are 4 simple rules to Club Penguin. They are:
# Respect other penguins - Club Penguin does not tolerate any swearing, cheating, bullying or mean behavior toward other penguins. Disciplinary action will be taken should any one of these occur while playing.
# Never reveal your personal information - The best way to stay safe online is to NEVER share your real name, phone number, address, email or passwords.
# No inappropriate talk - References to drugs and alcohol related activities, and sexual, racial or otherwise inappropriate talk are not permitted.
# No Cheating - Any use of third party programs to cheat is not allowed. Players who use any third party programs while playing risk being permanently banned.
Some Game Help and Info
Puffles are small, furry creatures with big personalities. They’re fun to take care of and make great pets for penguins. There are six types of puffles - each color has a different personality. Some puffles are outgoing and adventurous, while others are more cautious and quiet.
Find out more about each puffle in the Pet Shop; adopt one from the catalog, give it a unique name and make it comfortable in its new home - your igloo.
Puffles are happy and healthy when they’re given good care. They love to play, eat, sleep, bathe and walk. It is every pet owner’s job to care for their puffles in each of these ways - choose the icons on the player card to do this. Click the puffle to view the player card and to see how healthy it is.
Puffles run away when they are not cared for. For every hour you spend on Club Penguin, be sure to check in on them at least once. When you log off Club Penguin, your puffles will not get tired or hungry - they will be waiting for you the next time you log on.
Members can adopt up to 14 puffles and non-members can adopt any two red or blue puffles.
Every two weeks a pin is hidden in Club Penguin. Search for one by yourself or with friends. Look for a small icon—click it to add it to your inventory and display it on your player card.
